Editorial Guidelines

Veripedia's editorial guidelines establish the standards for creating and editing articles. These guidelines ensure consistency, accuracy, and balanced representation across all content.

Overview

All Veripedia articles must meet the following core requirements:

  • Use at least one citation from the approved sources list
  • Maintain a neutral, encyclopedic tone
  • Present verifiable facts with proper citations
  • Follow Wikipedia-style formatting conventions
  • Avoid original research or unsupported claims

Sourcing requirements

Every article must include at least one citation from Veripedia's approved sources list. Sources not on this list are not accepted.

When selecting sources:

  • Prefer primary reporting over opinion pieces
  • Use the most recent available source for current events
  • Include direct links to source articles when possible
  • Verify that the cited source actually supports the claim

Neutrality and tone

Veripedia articles should maintain a neutral point of view. This means:

  • Present facts without editorial commentary
  • Avoid loaded language or emotional appeals
  • When covering controversies, present multiple perspectives fairly
  • Do not take sides on political or ideological disputes
  • Let the cited sources speak for themselves

Avoid: "The controversial policy was widely criticized..."

Prefer: "Critics of the policy, including [source], argued that..."

Article structure

Articles should follow this general structure:

  1. Lead section: A brief summary introducing the subject. Should stand alone as a concise overview.
  2. Table of contents: Automatically generated for articles with multiple sections.
  3. Body sections: Organized with clear headings. Each section should cover a distinct aspect of the topic.
  4. References: All citations listed at the end of the article.
  5. Categories: Relevant categories to help organize and discover related articles.

Citation format

Citations should follow Wikipedia-style formatting and include:

  • Title: The headline or title of the source article (in quotes)
  • Publisher: The publication name in italics (must be from approved list)
  • Date: Publication date of the article
  • URL: Direct link to the source article
  • Retrieved date: When the source was accessed (required)

Citation format:

[#] "Article Title". Publisher Name. Publication Date. URL. Retrieved [Access Date].

Image references should use Wikipedia-style syntax:

Prohibited content

The following content is not permitted on Veripedia:

  • Unsourced claims or original research
  • Citations from non-approved sources
  • Personal opinions or editorializing
  • Defamatory or libelous content
  • Promotional or advertising content
  • Plagiarized content
  • Content that violates copyright

Articles containing prohibited content will be flagged for review or removal.

Verification process

When you submit an article, our system performs automatic verification:

  1. Source validation: All citations are checked against the approved sources list.
  2. URL verification: Links are verified to ensure they are accessible and from approved domains.
  3. Content review: Articles may undergo manual review for accuracy and compliance with guidelines.

Articles that pass verification are marked as "Approved." Articles requiring review are placed in "Pending Verification" status.
